When Dorking Halls first approached Pre to create a new identity for them, their brief had two key elements: Raise awareness beyond just the local area – and reposition Dorking Halls as a quality, versatile and established venue for a wide variety of events.
Given Dorking Halls hosts events ranging from ballet and opera to film festivals and cinema screenings, it was clear from the outset that it would have been wrong to try and design a new identity targeted at a specific audience. Pre therefor focused on the venue itself and its historical significance and heritage. Pre created an identity that speaks of the distinctive 1930s architecture that sets them apart and that few other venues offer. Also key was creating a brand that was versatile enough to be used for a particularly broad range of events and audiences.
The new brand created for Dorking Halls has had an immediate effect in the communication of their offering and heritage. The new identity, which has now been rolled out to their website, venue signage and other communication pieces, provides a much stronger identity that sets them apart. As well as creating their quarterly ‘Upcoming Events’ brochure and a few bespoke items like membership and gift card holders, we also produced a set of brand guidelines and templates that Dorking Halls can use to ensure consistency going forward.
