The client

Dorking Halls is one of Surrey’s busiest venues. With an 800 seat main auditorium, it is also a full time 2 screen cinema. Live events include top comedians, live music, family shows, opera and ballet as well as a host of other exclusive events.

The brief

When Dorking Halls first approached Pre to create a new identity for them, their brief had two key elements. The first was to raise awareness well beyond just the local area. The second was to reposition Dorking Halls. They wanted to be seen as a quality, versatile and established venue for a wide variety of events.

Our approach

This was never going to be a simple Surrey logo design project. Dorking Halls hosts events ranging from ballet and opera to film festivals and cinema screenings. So it would have been wrong to try and design an identity targeted at a specific audience. We therefor focused on the venue itself and its historical significance and heritage. We created an identity that speaks of the distinctive 1930s architecture that sets them apart and that few other venues offer. Also key was creating a brand that was versatile enough to be used for a particularly broad range of events and audiences.

The result

As a result of the rebrand, Dorking Halls now communicate their offering and heritage much more efficiently. Above all, the new identity on their website, venue signage and other communication pieces now provides a much stronger identity that sets them apart. As well as creating their quarterly ‘Upcoming Events’ brochure and a few bespoke items like membership and gift card holders, we also produced a set of brand guidelines and templates that Dorking Halls can use to ensure consistency going forward. “We have used Pre for many years now to help design our brochures and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. They have always been really helpful, always deliver on time and generally just a pleasure to work with.”
